Powerbase Radon Gas Barrier is BBA Certified (Certificate 17/5414). This Agrément Certificate relates to Powerbase Radon Membrane, for use as a gas barrier and damp-proof membrane in concrete ground floors, above or below the slab not subject to hydrostatic pressure, to protect the building against moisture and radon from the ground.

Application

Powerbase Radon Gas Barrier is designed to protect against radon, which is a naturally occurring gas. Radon is commonly found over granite formations, which can be harmful in high concentrations.

Powerbase Radon Gas Barrier is suitable for sites requiring NHBC Green and NHBC Amber 1 gas protection measures.

Installation

Typically, an impermeable barrier is designed in the foundations of the building over a high permeable ventilation layer. Hazardous gases migrate up through the soil and collect under the membrane in a sump from where they are vented and safely dispersed into the atmosphere. The principal function of the gas barrier membrane is to prevent harmful gases from entering the building through cracks, construction joints and service openings in the floor slab. The membrane should cover the whole plan area of the structure to all external faces in order to seal the ground slab as well as any cavity walls and voids in hollow concrete block work.

Powerclad Radon Gas Barrier can be joined on site using Powerbond Double-Sided Jointing Tape. It is important to note that the shelf life of self-adhesive products is limited: usually between 6 months and 1 year when protected from direct sunlight and ambient temperatures above 30°C.

Certification

BBA Certification The British Board of Agrément is one of the UK’s leading notified bodies offering approval, certification and test services to manufacturers of products and systems supplying the construction industry. Only products and systems that have passed a series of comprehensive assessments – including laboratory tests, on-site evaluations, quality management checks and inspections of production are awarded an Agrément Certificate.

CE Marking is required for many products. It

  • shows that the manufacturer has checked that these products meet EU safety, health or environmental requirements
  • is an indicator of a product’s compliance with EU legislation
